Designing Spaces That Respect Our Planet
EcoNest Design Limited teaches interior design through sustainable practices. We’re building a community of designers who believe beautiful spaces don’t have to come at the earth’s expense.
Why We Started This
In Sai Kung, we noticed something. Designers were creating gorgeous spaces, but nobody was talking about where materials came from or what happened to them after. We couldn’t find courses that taught the craft without ignoring the impact.
EcoNest Design Limited started because we’re tired of the contradiction. You can’t love design and ignore sustainability. It’s not either-or. It’s both.
We’ve trained over 180 designers since 2019. Most came thinking sustainable design meant compromise. They leave understanding it’s actually the opposite — constraints fuel creativity. Working with non-toxic paints, responsibly sourced wood, recycled materials. These aren’t limitations. They’re opportunities.
Sai Kung is special. It’s close to nature. Our students live here, work here. They see the water, the forests. That changes how you think about interior design. It’s not abstract. It’s personal.
Our Teaching Method
We don’t believe in pure theory divorced from reality. You’ll work with actual materials, understand sourcing, learn the business side, and create real designs for real spaces.
Materials First
We don’t teach you to design, then worry about materials. Materials come first. You’ll handle sustainable woods, learn about non-toxic paints, understand recycled options. Design flows from what’s actually available.
Small Groups
Four to eight students per session. That’s intentional. You’ll get real feedback on your work, not generic comments. Everyone progresses at different speeds and we respect that.
Hands-On Practice
Drawing on paper is fine. But you’ll also work with actual samples, visit suppliers, understand production. You’ll leave knowing where things come from and how they’re made.
Real Projects
By month three, you’re designing actual spaces. Small residential projects, commercial concepts. Real briefs, real constraints. That’s where learning actually sticks.
Sustainability Context
Every material choice has a story. Carbon footprint, manufacturing process, end-of-life options. We’re not preachy. You just understand the full picture before choosing.
Business Skills
Design talent isn’t enough. You’ll learn pricing your work, talking to clients about budget constraints, building a sustainable business model. Literally and figuratively.
Measurable Progress
Numbers tell part of the story. But what really matters is watching designers transform how they work and think.
Our Core Values
We’re not trying to convince you to care about the environment. You probably already do. What we’re doing is showing you how to make that care practical in your design work.
Sustainable interior design isn’t a trend. It’s how design should work. Thoughtful material choices. Understanding impact. Creating spaces people love living in. That happens to be good for the planet too.
We believe in transparency. We’ll tell you the hard truths about sustainability. Some eco-friendly options are expensive. Some trade-offs exist. We won’t pretend perfection is possible. But we’ll show you how to make genuinely better choices.
And we believe in access. Not everyone can afford luxury sustainable materials. That’s why we teach budget-conscious design. How to work with recycled materials, DIY options, strategic splurges. Beautiful design works at every price point.
Ready to Learn Differently
Our next course starts in June. Whether you’re completely new to design or looking to shift how you work, there’s a program for you. We’ve designed courses for different experience levels and different schedules.
